QGIS aka Quantum GIS (http://qgis.org/) is a very popular and growing open source GIS application. It is used by a large range of users from beginners in GIS, universities, to engineers and GIS professionals. It aims to be simple to use but powerful.

Currently we are a looking for a modern revision of the current logo, although there is some flexibility if a new design stands out. A lot of people have an association of current logo to our project and ideally we would like to keep that association.
The final design of the logo will ultimately also influence the main website which is to be updated at some stage.
We would also like to draw on the community aspect of the open source project. The final design should also be able to work as a desktop/tablet icon, or a sub part of the final design.

If you use fonts that require a license, confirm with the client they're ok with it. For licensing reasons, it is better to provide your client with information on how to acquire the font rather than providing the actual files.
Text in logos should be converted to outlines.
