Games & Recreational
Prediction Monster is a website through which visitors (signed-in and registered as “players” compete against each other by answering questions throughout the day. For each question that a player answers correctly, he/she receives a defined number of points. There are two types of questions: (1) Question of the Day – which is a single question asked at the beginning of the day (and communicated to players via email), and (2) Flash Questions – questions asked throughout the day. The website acts as the main interface with players. Players use the website to view the questions, to answer the questions, to see who is winning (leaderboard), and to see how they are doing in the game (My Account page). The design of the website should be clean and easy to navigate, but fun and colorful at the same time (as it is a game).
We are looking for an easy-to-navigate and clean design that portrays “fun”. www.Fitocracy.com is a decent example of the easy-to-navigate and clean design we are looking for, but somehow augmenting this feel to be a little bit more “fun” would be ideal (Fitocracy screen shots below). We do not have a particular color scheme in mind but the audience for the site is split male/female likely in the 22-45 age range. http://www.jinyoungkim.com/share/Design_Brief_v01.docx-20120315-084511.jpg http://www.jinyoungkim.com/share/Design_Brief_v01.docx-20120315-084553.jpg
1) Home Page / Question of the Day: This is the home page as well as the page that lists the Question of the Day. The yellow bubbles are comments about page content (not to be displayed on the actual page). Feel free to design the layout however you think best but right now these are the major components of the page. First, the menu bar features the four main navigation pages. Underneath the Question of the Day tab is an indicator of how much time the player has to answer the question before the deadline. Underneath the “Flash Questions” tab is an indicator of how many flash questions the player has yet to answer (as a reminder, Question of the Day is a single question asked at the beginning of the day while Flash Questions are questions asked throughout the day. On the left side of the page are two sections. First is a summary of the player’s statistics. This lists the player’s name, his level/ status, the team he is on, the # of people he has referred to the site, the # of points he has, and the amount of money he has won. Below that are links to various articles online that a player can click on to help him/her answer the Question of the Day. In the main body of the page is the actual question of the day (including the number of points it is worth and the time remaining to answer it) followed by potential answer choices that the player will choose from. The image in the body is an image that we will select relating to the question (no need to include this in the design). All the information on this page should fit above the fold. There are three types of points in the game: Monster Points, Total Points ,and Team Points. We will require a simple logo for each. (an example from Facebook’s Tetris Battle is given here): http://www.jinyoungkim.com/share/Design_Brief_v01.docx-20120315-084640.jpg The wireframe for this page is: http://www.jinyoungkim.com/share/Design_Brief_v01.docx-20120315-084702.jpg 3) My Account: This page presents an individual players’ information comprehensively on one page. This includes the player’s contact info, a list of other players that he/she has referred to the site, the player’s team (players can form teams with other players), a summary of the points that the player has accumulated, and a history of the player’s past questions (which questions he/she answered correctly, which ones answered incorrectly, etc). All of the information down to the top few lines of the player’s history should fit above the fold. http://www.jinyoungkim.com/share/Design_Brief_v01.docx-20120315-084718.jpg
Please refer to the attached wireframes for an idea of what information will be presented on each of the major pages of the website (do NOT rely on what is currently on www.predictionmonster.com from a design perspective). The wireframes are also just a suggestion of content layout, so if you have better ideas of how things should be laid out, please use your best judgment. As you can see on www.predictionmonster.com currently, our logo is simply a design place filler for now. That being said, we do like the simple/minimalistic feel of the current logo (we think it portrays a “fun”, non-pretentious feel). Of course, we would love to see additional logo ideas.

Mike delivered above my expectations. He is clearly familiar with modern design trends and knows his stuff. Communication was top notch, and he implemented all my change requests in a great way. I would highly recommend Mike to anyone.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
