Browsr got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Website design needed for a visual video game database
Check out Browsr's Web page design contest…
Games & Recreational
The website takes the Amazon.com interface and provides various filters in an attempt to make the browsing quicker and more intuitive. The first view of this website is based completely on video games but will expand to the other categories.
Crisp and clean with a dash of professionalism. Our initial thoughts were that white would be the overwhelming color (80%) with 1 or 2 other colors to add a little flare. Black would add that sense of professionalism. The colors would have to be “soft” so as to not further clutter a page that already contains a lot of information. That being said, we are completely open to any color and font palette.
Home Page:The home page is broken out into 5 categories:1. Best deals currently available on Amazon. This is essentially the images of 10 items. 2. The Filters. 3 different tables that allow the user to filter by Platform, Genre, and ERSB rating, as well as a search box. 3. The Items. Depending on the filters, this area returns the results which should be able to fit 5-6 items across and 4 items down. The items returned would be shown as images with some additional information. 4. Recently viewed: Much like Amazon, the recently view items. 5. Hot Items: Same idea as recently viewed, but it displays items that are moving quickly up the Amazon sales ladder. Landing Page:1. Once the user clicks on an item, it will take them to a fully detailed view of said item. This includes a slide show, various bits of information, and user reviews.
What to avoid
1. Use of too many different colors. 2. Overly comical icons, colors, fonts, etc. 3. Nickleback - they should be avoided at all costs.
We are looking to the designer to provide that artistic flair and surprise us. If the correct design is shown, we could easily be convinced to move away from our current views of how the website should look.
