website design for Freegler

A social commerce site (freegler.com - not live yet) that allows anyone to rent items they own to their neighbours. Owners can make cash from idle things, like drills, chainsaws, kitchen appliances, camping gear, etc. Renters can save money by renting rather than buying. You even get to know your neighbours better.

Google+ project. I like the clean simple, functional interface that is Googles new plus project. A demo can be found here, http://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/+/demo/ When Google launches it, I think it will be my favourite. github.com - clean simple interface. www.airbnb.com - clean design they immediately conveys the message, and has only the relevant calls to action on the home site, avoiding confusion 99designs.com - clean uncluttered look and feel iphone-icon.com/index2.html - obvious call to action on the main page, instantly understand what the site is all about and the user is not distracted with too much going on on the page.

This is a brand new site for "Freegler". So I am looking for design inspiration for all aspects of the site. I've deliberately mocked up the current website with "no style" and looking ugly to encourage creative license from designers, including everything from the colour scheme, UI/HTML elements (pulldown menus, input boxes, etc), layout. The mock ups are purely to convey functionality and not style. The site is currently uploaded at Heroku, http://bluedog.heroku.com and you can create an account or login with your Twitter credentials to view the applicaiton. The "look" I'm after for the site is that of a clean minimalistic site, with not too many colours, or overbearing icons, or images. It should convey the marketing message quickly and simply, and then allow the user navigate and rent items quickly. I'll be using "blueprint css", http://www.blueprintcss.org/ as a basis, so all pages will be max 950px wide, etc. Menu items should be text based, not image based for page load speed, and the site in general should be designed around page load speed (no bulky images) for higher raking in search engines. 1. Main home page. Should be clean and simple and convey the message instantly (i.e. list your items for rent, OR rent a neighbours items). There should be 2 main call to action, "search", here you can enter in an item name and it will take you to the search results page. Or "rent", where you can post an item for rent, this will take you to the "post item" page. Other areas on the home page include a list of the 5 most recent posts, a video which will explain how it the service works, and a brief value proposition for renter and seller. The main calls to action should stand out, and the rest of the page should be uncluttered. mockup http://bluedog.heroku.com 2. The search results page. This will display the results from a search, in a list format, with pagination. The profile page, this is a page showing the profile of a user. It should show the items the user has posted, the feedback from each user who has rented an item from them, their rating (a number based on feedback), a photo of the user, their physical location, and a list of items near where they live they they might want to rent themselves. mockup http://bluedog.heroku.com/users/1 4. The item profile page. A page which show the profile for a particular item. It should display a bunch of stats on the item, including the items location (with a google maps tile), name, description, price per day, user feedback from others who have rented the item perviously, the items rating (a number based on user feedback), and call to action to reserve the item allowing the user to use a javascript calendar date picker. The calendar also needs to be designed here, including colour scheme, size, cell colours, for already reserved days, available days, and days in the past (i.e. you can't reserve an item for yesterday) mockup http://bluedog.heroku.com/items/1 5. The reservation page. This is the page the user lands on after they pick the dates from the item profile page. Target audience is anyone really, but probably more targeted a people who are more willing to embrace a "community culture", those who want to meet their neighbours, and be more eco friendly by re-using (renting) items, rather than going out and buying a brand new one, which ultimately is better for the planet since less new items purchased means the less of earths natural resources are required to produce goods. Initially the site will launch in Australia, but others to follow.
