How MrXStitch started their web page design journey
Who are you known as?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
MrXStitch is the world's best contemporary embroidery and needlecraft site, featuring fresh textile art from across the planet.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the web page?
At the moment my site is the classic "toilet roll" blog format and I'm looking for something that has a static home page with much better emphasis on images and easy navigation to the different categories of stitch. I have a strong brand, and a defined colour palette, but the home page for the site needs to showcase the amazing work we share and make it easy for people to discover more.
The site is built in Wordpress and the designs need to accommodate that platform, while also providing stylish connection to our social media outposts.
Homepage - a landing page for new visitors that shows the best latest work across our main categories as well as social media links. It needs to make best use of imagery but have a contemporary feel that befits an art website with an edge - something that will help make people think differently about embroidery and needlecraft. We produce at least one new post a day and the home page needs to highlight new posts as well as old ones.
Slightly different to the home page, this needs to show off the content within different categories or time-related archives, with images and excerpts of the posts. A modern layout that defies normal blog convention and also befits an art website is what we want.
What to avoid
I want to get away from that toilet roll blog format if possible and have a site that makes people feel excited about the content. Responsive design has to be a consideration as well as ease of sharing via social media.
Mr X Stitch is doing a great job of changing the way people think about embroidery - it's not just for grannies, it's a legitimate art form - and I want the site design to reflect this philosophy. I want a site that does justice to this artform, while teaching and connecting people and artists. It needs to be cool, calm and connective.
