Kksimons got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Create the next website design for Magicians

Games & Recreational
My website is for a product and for services for that product. Magicians is a tabletop RPG game designed (like Dungeons & Dragons - pen and paper RPGs, not computer-based ones) to teach players a language. The kickstarter for it just finished. (http://kck.st/TuOkPa) On the website I need: 1) A main page with blog-like features for updates for both personal and game-related posts. 2) A page for selling the product itself with buttons to purchase via paypal. 3) A forum for talking about and support of the product. (vanilla) The target audience is: 1) Tabletop RPG gamers 2) Language Learners Predominantly male, but it's probably 70:30 males:females. - Largely American based - People who use twitter, google+, social networks- People who: - Write books, design games, learn languages, play console, computer, and tabletop games, are on their computers a lot, are computer savvy and educated - like to immersed and engaged.
Something clean and simple but with Asian influences, particularly Korean alphabet that blends well with the gamebook art. Maybe some black and white styling to match the artwork maybe? Good use of sweeping imagery, should be impressive and make viewers get people interested in the product. I like the idea of eye catching artwork on one side, blog on the other - or stuff like: http://maxcdn.thedesigninspiration.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/nurimbo.jpg http://maxcdn.thedesigninspiration.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/hangame-l.jpg http://maxcdn.thedesigninspiration.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/kebi-l.jpg http://maxcdn.thedesigninspiration.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/nikelegend-l.jpg http://maxcdn.thedesigninspiration.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/zipless.jpg Are some Korean examples, I'd like something that strays away from the traditional wordpress columns but am unsure of the limitations here and would obviously bow to a designer's knowledge in this area; I have and can provide typography that matches the book cover if desired.
The homepage will be basically a blog with news about the product and to showcase game art. Text will be the main element here and should be the main focus but there also needs to be something dynamic to sell the product; Currently have wordpress installed but don't mind using something else; need ability to post video, images along with text and a nice, clean comment system. Menu for linking to the buy page, and forum. The second page should be simple but eye-catching and using some artwork from the game. A simple button for paypal - (something like: http://spiffup.org/betrayers/ maybe) but will need the ability to post additional things up for sale easily and to combine multiple orders. The third page will be for a forum. Currently have vanilla installed but need it to look nicer, more professional and better customized to fit with the design of the main and buy pages. I would prefer something that stands out from a typical downloadable wordpress skin; instead of columns maybe art and content on one side, blog and writing on the other. I would like some iconography for wordpress to be included as well that suits the game for social media if possible as long as it matches with game art; maybe a way to have a tweet/facebook/google+ post/tweet ready to go saying they purchased Magicians (like kickstarter does after you back a project); icons and links to my facebook, twitter, google+
What to avoid
Bad use of whitespace; lack of imagery, use of music.
The website should be as mobile friendly as possible - not a big sticking point but would be a great plus
