Check out hollyg888's Web page design contest…
A take-no-prisoners approach to life has seen Paul Carter heading to some of the world's most remote, wild and dangerous places as a contractor in the oil business. Amazingly, he's survived (so far) to tell these stories from the edge of civilization. He has been shot at, hijacked and held hostage; almost died of dysentery in Asia and toothache in Russia; watched a Texan lose his mind in the jungles of Asia; lost a lot of money backing a scorpion against a mouse in a fight to the death, and been served cocktails by an orangutan on an ocean freighter. And that's just his day job. Taking postings in some of the world's wildest and most remote regions, not to mention some of the roughest rigs on the planet, Paul has worked, got into trouble, and been given serious talkings to, in locations as far-flung as the North Sea, Middle East, Borneo and Tunisia, as exotic as Sumatra, Vietnam and Thailand, and as flat-out dangerous as Columbia, Nigeria and Russia, with some of the maddest, baddest and strangest people you could ever hope not to meet. Twenty years in the making, this story teller has three international bestselling books and has amassed over 2 million book sales world-wide. Reviews for Don't Tell Mum I work on an Oil Rig, She thinks I'm A Piano Player in a Whorehouse "Great two fisted writing from the far side of hell." "A unique look at a gritty game. Relentlessly funny and obsessively readable." Born in the UK, Paul lived in a fairly rough part of Aberdeen, Scotland’s Oil Capital; his neighbourhood was on occasion like a cold wet version of Beirut. At 18 he moved to land rigs and then offshore overseas in third world countries at the age of 23. His formative years spent largely trying not to get killed during a Coup, Jihad, Up-rising, Insurrection or flat out War, all in the name of hydrocarbons. In 2001 he was tasked with a seven year drilling campaign in Northern Russia. Securing that work post 9/11 involved a long and convoluted psychiatric evaluation that Paul promptly failed. He is now published globally in foreign language, audio books, e-books and in 2015 production starts on the feature film adaptation of his first two books. The film will be produced by Madman Entertainment, directed by Clayton Jacobson (Creator/Director of “Kenny”. "Carter is a kind of modern day Indiana Jones... a natural storyteller" Sunday Tasmanian "Carter writes as if he has ADD careering through his life on oil rigs in exotic locations...in a word, irrepressible." Herald Sun "Literary black gold....horriyfing and hilarious." Herald Sun
Think Oil and Gas industry. Think motorcycles. It is suggested to google Paul, his books and have a read of the reviews and excerpts to get a grasp of the theme that is Paul. Website should be fun, not take itself too seriously and be comfortable in what it is. Colours should be bold and industry related. See Google images for images of Paul to use at your own discretion. The website will be a place for Paul's fans to hang out, see what latest adventure Paul is on, follow the making of his movie, listen to previous interviews and a hang out for Paul's activities of the past - previous books will be available, previous tv shows hosted etc. Also, think Hangover Movie theme. Crazy stories that are actually true in this case. Smoking Monkeys INCLUDED. Home page should include this quote from Paul “It’s just life, what constitutes my life and ranting about it to be worthy of book form I have no idea, people keep buying them. If you have indeed done that, then I thank you. It’s clinical name is attempted observational humour based on an obsessive-compulsive middle-aged man’s attempt to deal with various forms of self-induced task saturation. Life is sometimes all about managing expectations, bearing that in mind I urge you to read on.” - Paul Carter
Homepage: We want a page that showcases all that website has to offer: Books, Podcasts, About Paul, Projects, Movie, Bikes, Speaking Gigs. We want it to feel like browsers of the homepage feel like the rest of the website is rollicking ride through Paul's life and to explore. Additional Optional Extra: Create a homepage entry page that look like this http://fourhourworkweek.com/ but use Paul as the center and quote all his best selling numbers and reviews by large companies. Must be accurate and offer a subscription to all the wild antics Paul gets up to on a monthly basis. 'A unique look at a gritty game. Relentlessly funny and obsessively readable.' -Philip Noyce, director of 'The Quiet American' and 'Clear and Present Danger' "The only chicks to make an appearance are man-eating prostitues, fantasy cheerleaders and a barmaid, Ah Meng (who happens to be an orang-utan).' -Kate Hamilton, Men's Style 'A fascinating and funny life story well worth the read.' Sportsladmag.com ' Full of colourful stories and well-worn anecdotes accumulated over almost two decades working the oil rigs.' -TNT Magazine 'Paul Carter spins a good yarn. The disturbing this is that the yarns are real. 'Don't Tell Mum' can be read in a single or dual sitting if you find the story captivating enough - and for most men, it would be. As the title says, it's about a bloke who works on an oil rig in some of the most dangerous places on earth - and not always getting danger pay for it. This autobiographical paperback is one of the most readable Lucire Men has come across.' -Jack Yan, Lucire Men
What to avoid
No soft colours. MUST BE RESPONSIVE. People will access this website regularly on their mobile phones and tablets. Not a scrolling website for basic use. Scrolling for longer articles is fine but the website should not be a scrolling onepage wonder.
This is a prominent significant project that will be an ongoing project. Especially when his movie comes out!!! Feel free to design other pages if you really want to impress and secure a ongoing position.
