CaroLynch got their new t-shirt by running a design contest:
Fun t-shirt for nonprofit public charter school operations staff!
Check out CaroLynch's T-shirt contest…
I made this Pinterest board to just capture a variety of styles I was drawn to. You can ignore the specific content of the shirts there, as I was just clicking on a variety of styles/designs I thought were cool: https://pin.it/3opMswH You can see our organization's website (https://www.rocketshipschools.org/) and our attached style guide for some ideas of what our style typically looks like overall. However, I would like this shirt design to be more fun/whimsical/casual/creative/etc than our overall org aesthetic, as this shirt is not intended to be a formal representation of our org but rather a fun side thing for our staff.
We are a nonprofit organization that runs public charter elementary schools in low-income areas across the country. This design will be a shirt I'll give out to our Operations team staff members to appreciate all their hard work and dedication to our mission and our students! These staff members range across ages, genders, body types, and personal styles. The shirt could say something like "Rocketship Operations Team" or "Rocketship Ops Team" or "Rocketship Ops Superstars" or "Rocketship Ops: We Got Your Back" or something along those lines. So basically, I guess it just needs to say "Rocketship" and also "Operations" or "Ops" in some way somewhere on the shirt to show our team pride! As context, this is the team that supports a bunch of non-instructional functions in our public schools -- e.g. meal service/distribution (especially important to our many students who qualify for free meals), procurement, IT, compliance, recess, facilities maintenance, building cleanliness, etc -- so as you can imagine, many of them have been extra hard at work during COVID! We have given this team shirts/jackets/etc at some points in the past, but normally just with a boring Rocketship logo (the spaceship logo or wordmark logo) and maybe the word "Operations" under that -- but I am looking for something more fun this time! Something cool/fun/creative/whimsical/different/etc that folks will actually want to wear in public. :)
What to avoid
I'd definitely want to avoid anything that could be construed as offensive, or even "off color" to any audiences.

Designers across the globe delivered design magic.

And then… they selected a winner!
I LOVE the t-shirt design that Richard created for me! Honestly he had several of the top entries into my contest, even beyond his winning entry. He was amazingly quick to respond to any feedback I sent his way, and incorporated it all really well into his designs. I would definitely love to work with him again!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
