PLEASE READ ALL OF THE GENERAL COMMENTS FOR ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE Wide-open design contest for book cover (and poster, post card and book mark based on cover) although the cover is color, I will need a B&W version for promo in a book soon to be released. Author: Michael Selmer This collection of short stories is called: Running Scared All of the stories are related to running in one way or another and they all have a bit of suspense or "scare" factor to them. You don't have to use any of what follows. It is meant to give you an idea of the content of the book. I'm looking for a cover that conveys mystery, suspense, fear, exhilaration, The titles of the individual stories and a brief description of each follows: Runner's High: A blizzard helps one man discover what a running high is really all about. Some images from the story: a snowplow, a Great Green Macaw, a long sandy beach and "Yellow eyes in an icy misshapen head topped a wraith-like form that regarded him with a conspiring, gleeful evil." Driven: A detective finds it hard to keep pace as he chases a murderer in a town full of runners. Images from the story: A wooded running trail, fresh snow outlining a patch of grass where a body had been, A Runner's ID bracelet, a bear chasing a man. A woman wearing a hydration pack. Cowboy Joe: A freelance writer travels to Wyoming to get to the strange truth behind an ageless ultra legend. Images: A glittering spring of water deep in the mountains, a train crashing off a trestle over a ravine, a pile of old books, a field-stone cabin roofed with sod, an amazing golden sunrise, a high mountain meadow w/ wildflowers The Money Clip: A man picks up a lost money clip while out for a run and his life is turned upside down. A money clip with a medallion on it, (lines/rays come from the center of the medallion and two diamonds are inset at 2:00 and 10:00); a handgun, a 1918 $1000 bill (Alex. Hamilton), a black Chevy Caprice. Programmed: A distraught husband searches for his wife, who is trapped in a body that refuses to stop running. Images: a rushing mountain stream with ice/icicles along the edge, a lime-green furry winter cap with ear flaps, a bank of computer screens (like NASA), The Ghost Runners: A winner with an oversize ego learns that it is sometimes better to finish second. Images: A wooden bridge over a stream, a skeleton holding an aluminum cane, park-like area covered in waist-high fog, a granite monument (8-10' high), a narrow path through a crowd of ghostly, cheering spectators Sheila's Marathon Year: An abused woman's mental breakdown leaves her unable to record memories of her life except for when she is running. Images: A shotgun, a mounted deer's head (big rack- antlers), railroad tracks/train, a rusted trashcan (w/lid), a woman looking in a mirror, a train station (google Lancaster, PA Train Station), a Pa. Dutch Hex symbol, a beat-up mobile home/trailer
