What's your vision?
This project is the creation of a book cover for a novel. The book's title is "The Green Plague." The premise of the novel is that in the near future, a medical procedure is available that allows people to photosynthesize energy through genetic modifications to their skin in order to sustain themselves, in the process turning their skin green. For one man, a slightly different process has turned his skin gray instead of green. When a disease strikes the green population, only the gray man has a resistance to the new disease, and together with his girlfriend, he has to flee from medical authorities who want to exploit his immunity to develop a cure. The heroes of the story are Tarry, the gray man, who has lived on the margins of society, excluded because of his skin color, and his girl friend, a reporter who he meets as the novel opens (set in New Orleans). In terms of a couple of potentially visually useful elements of the story that might translate to a piece of art for the cover: 1) Tarry lives in a small cabin in a bayou/swamp, where a large cypress tree is his place of comfort. 2) He sells goods at a farmers market in New Orleans on the weekends, which is where he meets his girlfriend. 3) They attend a formal dress reception together which Anne has to attend for business. 4) Tarry feels a strong kinship with plants, lives in the swamp because he prefers them over people, so I think that greenery and plant images will be relevant.
This novel is partly science fiction, partly romance, in terms of the expected audience segment.
