I write suspense thrillers.
What's your vision?
To design a new book cover for the following novel: http://www.amazon.com/The-Defector-ebook/dp/B004NBZE76/ The final image needs to be an RGB image at least 500 pixels wide x 800 tall, and no bigger than 1000 wide x 1600 tall. The cover only needs to include the following text - the title (The Defector) should be the focus: === The Defector Mark Chisnell === The cover must be an attractive sales pitch as a thumbnail on Amazon.com. So bold, bright colours in an image with depth and clarity even at the small size. The book is a suspense thriller in which the protagonist is forced to play an escalating series of dangerous 'games theory' games by a psychotic drug baron. When the protagonist tries to escape, the drug baron chases him, ultimately out into the Pacific Ocean aboard a yacht. The climax comes as the yacht is trapped and boarded, and the protagonist is taken aboard a fishing boat and forced to play one final, lethal game (a version of Russian roulette) to save his own life, that of the women he loves, and the life of her current partner. I'm adding to this that the use of sailing boats in the image is probably a negative in terms of books sales. While there is sailing in the plot, it comes right at the end. I think more general images of the sea (I guess I'm thinking of Wilbur Smith covers here) or coastlines are good, remembering that the book is set in Thailand, Australia (around Sydney), and into the Pacific islands.
The book is targeted at readers looking for a beach or airport read with an additional, thought provoking element. They will like the unpredictable, and will enjoy travel, sport, adventure and have a romantic side. They are left-of-centre people, with a moral code and a strong sense of fairness. They don't need their heroes to be perfect.
