james.riley got their new poster by running a design contest:
Community College Quick Facts Poster
Check out james.riley's Poster contest…
Normandale Community College is a public two-year college in Minnesota. We offer a broad range of associate's degrees and certificates and are the largest two-year college in the state. After attending Normandale, our students typically transfer to an in-state four-year university. We would like a letter-sized poster to include in our College Fact Book that gives ‘quick facts’ about our institution. Our College Fact Book is primarily an internal reference document for commonly requested student information, but it is also available publicly on our website.
What's your vision?
We would like a letter-sized poster to include in our college Fact Book that gives ‘quick facts’ about our institution. The poster must be oriented in portrait and print on 8.5" x 11" paper. We will provide this page along with the rest of the Fact Book as a PDF and printed spiral-bound document. Margins and general aesthetic are important in order for the poster to look like the rest of the Fact Book, as well as print nicely when spiral bound. Attached is a PowerPoint mock-up of the poster with all the appropriate content, a MS Word document that has the appropriate formatting and margins, and another miscellaneous Fact Book page for reference. The final poster should have the same margins, including the location of the title and footer. The title must be ‘Quick Facts’ and the footer must be as shown. Finally, we need to be able to edit the final poster (page number at the bottom and maybe some of the metrics). In the mock-up we attempted to illustrate the student life cycle from bottom to top: where our students come from, who they are, what they achieve while here, and where they go. It is OK for the poster to be heavy on text and light on images and graphics. The bubble chart at the bottom of the mock-up is our attempt to show the relative size of our top feeder high schools. Ideally we would want the area of the bubbles to indicate the relative size of our feeder schools – I’ve included the actual numbers in the Word document (the location of the bubbles also suggests where the schools are relative to our campus) – but feel free to try something else.
Our institutional brand book advises the use of Avenir book (serif) and Avenir roman (sans-serif) font.
