The Cartographer got their new other design by running a design contest:

Travel & Hotel
A family of podcasts. The names are all "The [area of interest] Cartographer." You'll be designing for "Lutheran Cartographer" It's an interview show interviewing figures in that interest areas about life in their part of the USA. For example, I might interview a band conductor in Whitefish Montana about how the arts scene is there and how it compares with other places. The target audience is travelers who have that interest and those that are thinking about moving to that area of the country.
What's your vision?
A logo for the first podcast, in a family of podcasts, the Lutheran Cartographer. In general: I'd prefer the logo to be the stylized initials of the podcast ("LC") with the full name beneath. I want a connected look: Listeners to one of the podcasts might not listen to another, but want the experience of encountering another logo from the same family of podcasts to be something like, "Ah, this looks like the logo from the other podcast I listen to. I bet it's done by the same guy." Connecting element could be the 'C' could be a compass across all logos. Light whimsy/humor okay, not necessary. Want to communicate "trusted guide" more than "road trip buddy." Masculine, but not cold. The podcast: - Lutheran Cartographer (LC): ("Lutheran" is a Christian denomination like Church of England, Roman Catholic, Pentecostal, etc.) What's the atmosphere for Lutherans like in the area? Lots of active members? What's the local district (group of churches) like? Pictorial reference: Luther Rose Chi Rho Most non-papel (having to do with the pope) Roman Catholic/Eastern Orthodox symbolism Design ideas: Make the top of the "L" like a church steeple; not a huge fan of this idea, I'd like something that looks uniquely Lutheran. Maybe incorporate the Chi Rho into the "L"? Another possibility is to use the Luther Rose in the "c" but that takes away the possibility of using the design of the "c" as a unifying element. Possible colors: Purple, Orange, Blue
This contest is for one logo in a family of logos. I will work with the designer of the winning logo to develop the other four. I will pay $150 for the other four logos. I like Limited Resources' logo, see attached. Needs to read well at arm's length among other podcast logos Here are the design ideas for the other four podcasts (don't submit these for this contest, winner will get to do these): ---- - Liberty Cartographer (LC): About what the local government situation is and how liberty-oriented the area is. Picture reference: Statue of Liberty Anacro-capitalist (yellow-black) flag "Don't tread on me" flag Design ideas: Make the down stroke of the 'L' the statue of liberty. Make the "C" have the anacro-capitalist "A" inside the "C" Possible Colors: Yellow, Orange, Blue - Homeschool Cartographer (HC): about educating your kids at home in that state and area. Design ideas: C could be the traditional Torch of Knowledge on a 'C' rather than a circle. Making the 'H' a home? Possible Colors: Green, Orange, Blue - Outdoor Cartographer (OC): What's the biking/climbing/hiking scene in the area? Possible Colors: Green, Orange, Blue Design ideas: 'O' could be a compass, but that would take away the possibility of using the 'C' compass as a unifying theme. 'O' with a climber hanging off it? - Arts cartographer (AC): Talking with musicians and artists about what the arts scene is like in their local area. Possible Colors: Red, Orange, Blue Design ideas: Music notes, artist's brushes?

PolGraphics did a great job following up on her contest design for me and provided a family of logos in the same style. I appreciate her attention to detail and her quick revisions.
I'd recommend working with her for your own projects.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
