What's your vision?
Three characters designed as well as a a few icons for each character, to represent their needs. =================================== Whats it look like? Set in a futuristic like world, examples below. Vector styled. Looking for stylish designs, meaning sharp contrasting angles. Nothing too detailed! The characters should be recognizable from silhouette form. Meaning if you made the character completely black, you would be able to tell what they are from the shape alone. So going overly-detailed, while you might think makes the character look cool, it’s hurting your cause. Nothing “puffy” or bitmappy. No outlines on the characters!! These are going to be sleek looking characters (think Erin from the Esurance commercials). =================================== Okay! On to character design! We are leaving the characters’ design mostly up to you. You’ve been provided with a basic intro for each character as well as a few extra thumbnails they will need. Don’t hold back on your creativity, and polish those characters up! We’re looking for sexy designs, so don’t leave any anchor point on those vectors off-set! Be clean about it! Attached is a photo of the three members of UFOStart, we more or less represent the three types of characters you can choose. So it would be nice (but not mandatory) to have a hint of ourselves in the characters. At least the jumpsuit kind of style :) =================================== Before jumping into the characters, I’ll try to clarify on the “needs” portion in their information. (*Needs column: These are thing that your character will “need”. Think of playing a game like “The Sims”. If your Sim needs food, a thought bubble of a hamburger may appear above their head. Unfortunately, putting this same idea into business terms becomes a bit abstract. If you feel like you need more direction with an item, first try what’s on your mind, if you still think it’s not working, please contact us. ) =================================== Three characters: The Entrepreneur: The entrepreneur offers ideas and visions for the next “big thing”, has to look like they are “with it”, but not snobby. Can be male or female. (if you can make it look futuristic, the better!) Needs the following thumbnails (representing things they offer Investors / Experts): - Money ( Need this fuel to get the product off the ground! ) - Tasks (something representing objectives that need to be completed) - Materialistic goods (office, sofa, infrastructure) - Customers (People who will be buying their product!) The Investor: The investor offers his money to the entrepreneur. Or his house, his car, maybe even his garage! He helps the entrepreneur with advertising space, or with manufacturing. Because of this, the investor should look like a “helpful” character. A character with money, but not a stereotypical “rich” negative looking character. Male or female, as stated prior. Business attire. (if you can make it look futuristic, the better!) Needs the following thumbnails (representing things they offer Entrepreneurs): - Hot startups (The investor can’t do much without something to invest in!) - Feedback from experts (chat bubble from an expert) - Feedback from customers (chat bubble but showing its from a customer) - Money from co-investors (the icon from the ‘money’ asset before, but something showing it’s from another investor.) The Expert: The expert offers skills (like developing, advertising, legal, or scientific resources), or contacts to important people or business (think Walmart or NASA). The Experts have the money the Investors have and the knowledge that both the investor and entrepreneur have. A smart, powerful, and wealthy character is needed, but again, needs to look positive and approachable. No negative connotations with the character will be acceptable ☺. Male or female. As always, if they can look futuristic, that is ideal (and will probably land you much closer to winning the contest!) Needs the following thumbnails (representing things they offer Investors/entrepreneurs): - Access to hot startups (They have the money. They have the know-how. They need the startups) - Equity (making sure that their skill-set is put to good use!) - Work (for their money!) =================================== Color Palette Attached is a color palette. Try your best to stick with this!! A minimalist color style is always best, but don’t make the characters clash. They don’t have to have EVERY color in them, and they can have different shades of these colors, if it helps your design. =================================== What format should be turned in? - Each character should be on its on .ai file. - Each character should be on one layer. - “Needs” can be placed on separate layers.
Attached is: Examples of vector characters (some retro, just giving you an idea of what we're looking for, but honestly if you don't know what a vector character is, this contest is not for you) Color palette to go from, try and stay focused on it, but feel free to go a little off-shade. The logo of the company. A business card of ours to show you the kind of style we have. An example of the kind of background the characters may be placed on (futuristic, vector format, retro) ** UPDATE : Also attached is the background they will be placed on. It's labeled "ufo_backdrop" ====================================== Again, make the characters vector and retro looking! And good luck! I will be checking back often and replying to questions or concerns, and if many arise, I'll edit the contest to reflect that. Obviously follow the instructions, or your submission will be eliminated. Good luck!
