An Open Face Chinese poker app. Open Face Chinese is a 2-4 player card game. The rules are unimportant but at the end of a hand, a user's screen will have anywhere from 26 to 52 face up cards laid out on screen (13 per player) From Google Play - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.se.openfacechine.openface : "A real time Open Face Chinese Poker game. Play against your friends on smartphones and across the web. Features: * 2-4 player games * Fantasy Land - QQ+ fantasy land is included at no extra cost * Private game mode - Play with just your friends, or leave public to meet new players * Facebook integration - Single click sign in * Free to play!"
I am purely a programmer, but created the GUI with a huge focus on ease-of use. In an ideal world it would look something like Pokerstars.net, Zynga Poker (but less cluttered) as an example of a cardgame app which looks good. My competitors (which I think are all pretty poor from a GUI perspective are: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chpkapp.chinesepoker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.thirteencards.openface < Far and away the best https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mws.ofcp https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.corvidapps.openfacechinesepoker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.garethludlow.OpenFaceChinesePoker
Open Face Chinese
The app is already created and live in the Google Play store. The flow of the app works fine, but there has been some negative feedback re: GUI so I am looking to improve that. There are basically three screens that need to be redesigned: Login screen and Lobby: A user is given the choice to either log in via Facebook or sign in using a username, password and email After this they are shown a list of games to join. The screen displays their balance, a button to top up their balance with in-app purchases and controls to filter the lobby The lobby can display a number of pop-ups which will occur in three circumstances: Popups: There is a modal pop-up which appears currently in 3 situations 1) You click the button to list in-app purchases 2) You run out of chips 3) You are rewarded new chips (after a purchase, or action) Game: The game is very basic. A 'table' appears which has 4 places for players to sit and set hands. The only other elements on the screen are a progress indicator showing how long a player has left on their current turn, the players' names and balances and a button to return to the lobby. What exactly do I need: The GUI at present in my opinion is pretty usable, just not the most attractive. Ultimately it is up to you whether or not you want to reorganise and lay anything out differently but here is a list of the current components which will be required on submission as a minumum. As I will be accomodating various screen sizes all graphics must be vector files so that I can resize and export them for different resolutions. List of components: LOG IN WITH FACEBOOK GRAPHIC OTHER BUTTONS: Up, Down, Hover, Disabled state images TEXT FIELDS: Normal, Focused and Disabled state images CHECKBOXES: Selected, Unselected, Hover state images BACKGROUND IMAGE LAUNCH IMAGE/DEFAULT IMAGE SQUARE APP ICON PLAYER CARD HOLDER (The 13x squares in the current design. There needs to be 13 laid out the way they are currently (3+5+5) but the design is free to change) CARDS (The cards we have at present are OK, but if you feel you can improve them that would be great) MODAL POPUP BACKGROUND MODAL POPUP CLOSE/X BUTTON 'DEALER BUTTON': The little white puck which you can see in the screenshots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Button_(poker)) FANTASY LAND: A weird term I know but each player spot needs to have their card placement area overlaid with the words 'Fantasy Land' for a specific game state LOADING GRAPHIC (An animated spinning indeterminate graphic to be used as a modal loader) I think that list above is pretty extensive but the best thing to do is to download the app. The app is developed in Adobe Air and I will be able to provide a .fla representation of anything you need if it helps.
What to avoid
Clutter - In a full game there are already going to be 52 cards on screen, some buttons and checkboxes. Ease of use! Bright colours ( A theme seems to be that apps of this nature are dark, using golds, yellows and reds for their 'bright' colours )
