Jocelyn Schlenker got their new app design by running a design contest:
Help us design an innovative mobile app for Deaf people!

Community & Non-Profit
The Deaf Bible App is a free app providing Bible to Deaf people in a way that is accessible to them. Deaf people prefer to watch signing than to read. Instead of using written Bible text, this app showcases Bible translations in video format where the verses are signed by a signer. So far, the app provides 28 different sign language Bibles from many countries, including the US, Brazil, China, Uganda, and more. THIS PROJECT ALREADY HAS WIREFRAMES SET UP FOR YOU! SEE LINKS UNDER CONTENT DESCRIPTION.
We are currently using the 2.0 version of the app that can be viewed or downloaded here - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/deaf-bible/id567788508?mt=8. We also have a web platform that is available here - https://deaf.bible/. The parent company of this app is an organization called Deaf Bible Society. You may view the organization's website here - https://www.deafbiblesociety.com/.
OVERALL DESIGN We would like this app to be modern, intuitive, colorful, and highly visual. This app is used by Deaf people, who are very visual and like moving images. We would advise designers to download the current 2.0 version of the app for reference. This design will be for the 3.0 version, where we hope to use a new design that takes the app to the "next level." COLORS We would love to see our brand colors represented in the app. Those color codes are below. Red = HEX DA291C Dark Grey = HEX A0A0A0 Light Grey = HEX F2F2F2 White = HEX ffffff Black = HEX 000000 If you would like to use colors beyond the red, black, and grey, please use colors from the brand color palette attached at the bottom. ICONS You will see how we incorporate icons in the 2.0 version and wireframe to guide users through the app. We would like this to be the same for the 3.0 version. IMAGES We don't necessarily need any images, but I could see us using some textures or designs to make the background of the app more visually interesting than just a solid color. DELIVERABLES We would prefer Photoshop files for the final deliverables. Thank you! ITERATIONS We would LOVE to work with the winning designer on all screen sizes and iterations of this concept. We are completely redoing our app, so there is more work available beyond these 5 screens. We will work with the winning designer via a 1 on 1 project, if they were interested in that :)
Deaf Bible App
You may view the entire app wireframe at this link - https://firstname.lastname@example.org/n9lZGAHnLz/view/page/a2d760cb7. Based on this wireframe, we would like 5 screens from the app created for the iPhone. Those 5 screens are: 1. Loading Screen - This is the screen that shows up when the app is loading - https://email@example.com/n9lZGAHnLz/view/page/a2d760cb7 2. Country Selection Screen - This is the next screen that shows up so that a user can select the country they live in - https://firstname.lastname@example.org/n9lZGAHnLz/view/page/ad9be439d 3. Book Selection Screen - Once a user selects a screen, this screen that shows up so that a user can select which book they'd like to watch - https://email@example.com/n9lZGAHnLz/view/page/ac01e99d3 4. Video Player Screen - This is the screen that appears once a user has selected the book they'd like to watch - https://firstname.lastname@example.org/n9lZGAHnLz/view/page/a97bcb13f. The four icons below the video player on this screen represent the four parts of the Bible translation in order from first to last. From left to right, the icons represent the concepts up: 1) Introduction to the text, 2) the story, 3) the lesson, and 4) more information. 5. Settings Screen - This is the main settings screen - https://email@example.com/n9lZGAHnLz/view/page/aa0ecebd0 As noted, we will only have 5 of the screens designed for now. If the winning designer would like to work with us on the remaining screens, we would love that!
What to avoid
Since this is an app for Deaf people who do not prefer to read, please do not add any text except for the text that you see in the Moqup images. Use icons instead of text whenever possible. We would like the layout of the pages to be close to the wireframe layout, unless you feel strongly that the layout of a particular page should look different. You can think of this design as a "skin" on the wireframe.
