Games & Recreational
We aspire to be the biggest "unofficial" forum for the new MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. For more information about the game check out the 3 game trailers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSiZkwmj-Ts This is a game about star wars. There is alot of familiar star wars "iconography" and imagery. This should be utilized where possible/appropriate. (ie. crossed lightsabers, or lightsaber above/below logo). If you plan to use other imagery, please check with me before you spend time on it first. If you want to use jabba the hutt I will most likely veto this idea :) Players will be able to discuss the game, its classes, write guides, and any info relating to the game in a friendly and "less moderated" environment than the official forums.
Logo types to explore
Presentation: If its not too much trouble I would like to see the logos/mockups before they get too far along as I dont want designers to waste too much time heading in the wrong direction. But maybe this is already part of the process, this is my first project on this site! Essentialy I see two approaches: 1. A high-res "monolithic", crumbled ruins meets High technology feel. Think, statues, think crumbling ruins, but with lightsabers. This version would feel strong and "epic". Maybe try playing around with perspective. A sort of looking-up-on the-letters-from-below, to give it a monolithic feel. I see kind of a "higher rez" online version for the forums and a lower rez/vector version for tshirts and merchandise. If this is possible. Conveying perspective and texture in a vector logo may be difficult, that is why I suggest two "versions". This is not required, but would be a nice to have. --------- 2. A more simplistic, but nicely stylized logo. Less fancy schmancy as option 1, probably only in vector form. Easily transferable to different formats. But still with some kind of unique look and something implicating star wars. Maybe a unique typeface with lightsabers, +++++ On a side note: Incorporating lightsabers is a bonus, however if you want to use lightsabers they must be done VERY well as this will be a key part/focus of the logo. Tacky/low-quality/dim lightsabers will not look good and bring down the overall affect. If you want to see more good lightsabers check out swtor.com, google swtor jedi, swtor sith, or just ask me! Examples of competitors & similar services (keep in mind im not saying their logos are good or bad, but merely showing you what similar sites have for logos so we can come up with something that really stands out): www.mmo-champion.com (nice logo, cant really see what the background design stuff is, but looks profressional at least) http://www.darthhater.com/ (nice logo, ultra simple) http://r2-db.com/ (not great logo) http://torwars.com/ (dont like this logo, does not stand out, is it even a logo, or part of the interface? too much going on.) http://www.torhead.com/ (nice simple logo, cool character, but not sure if a character would fit my site).
