Community & Non-Profit
The aim of the Norwegian Epidemiological Association (NOFE) is to promote the development of epidemiology as a scientific discipline. The term “epidemiology” historically comes from “epidemy”, which is a rapid spread of disease among individuals. Today, epidemiology denotes the study of occurrence, demographics, causes and consequences for all human diseases, including aging-related and complex traits. The knowledge gained through epidemiology can be used to reduce the occurrence of disease through a better understanding of its spread, causes and predictors. It therefore represents a cornerstone in public health promotion. NOFE will increase the understanding of the need for epidemiological knowledge in the health service and in health promotion work. We will contribute to cooperation between persons working with or interested in epidemiology, promote recruitment to and education in the subject epidemiology and strengthen cooperation with epidemiological organizations outside Norway. NOFE was founded in 1990 and holds an annual epidemiology conference in connection with the annual meeting. This is held alternately in Bergen, Tromsø, Trondheim and Oslo, the four largest cities in Norway. We have approximately 250 members, and the majority of them are researchers and employees at Norwegian Universities and Norwegian University Colleges. We want our logo to express the aim and mission of NOFE.
