melkumoff got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Logotype for a student-run academic journal at the NYU
Check out melkumoff's Logo design contest…
PGI is the student-run academic journal based at the Center for Global Affairs at the New York University. Our target audience is students and members of the academia with an interest in Global Affairs in general or one of our research concentrations, namely - Environment/Energy Policy, Human Rights and International Law, International Development and Humanitarian Assistance, International Relations, Peacebuilding, Private Sector and Transnational Security.
Logo types to explore
We need two versions of the logotype - one with full name of the journal and another with the abbreviation - PGI. Both will be used interchangeably, depending on the media format. We are developing a new website for the journal, but the old one and the archive both are available here for your reference - http://www.perspectivesonglobalissues.com One of the ideas we had was to use the silhouette of the Woolworth Building in NYC where we are based (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woolworth_Building). Many photos of the building can be easily found online, but please mind that because of the format of our journal, we need a horizontally-aligned/shaped logo and not a vertically-aligned/shaped one. Also, even though we are part of the NYU student body, we cannot have any of their memorabilia (the torch, etc.) in our logotype, because we are not an official publication of the University. Possible sources of inspiration - Foreign Affairs magazine; http://jia.sipa.columbia.edu - similar journal at Columbia; International Affairs and the World Today (Chatham House publications), etc. ADD: We will also need all the information about the font that is going be used in the logotype (in case it is not a custom made font) to avoid possible legal problems during the trademark registration process.
