Games & Recreational
Our website, http://deckbox.org is a tool for players of trading card games like Magic the Gathering. It helps them organize their card collection, trade with other users and build card decks.
Logo types to explore
Some notes and ideas or ours follow, hopefully not too many of them :). Typography wise we like logos with solid emphatic fonts, like stripe.com. The icon/image part of the logo we'd like to identify with, and use in various sizes - from a 16x16 favicon, to a bigger element like a facebook avatar etc. If you have a great idea that does not fit this model, we can also do a simpler variation and a larger one, but it should transmit / represent the same thing. We'd also like to use it on light as well as black backgrounds. In gaming vocabulary, a deckbox is a container for a set of cards. It is a very recognisable item in the card gaming world, and there are many designs for them. A google image search for "magic the gathering deckbox" will reveal many of them. A stylized version of one would fit a site logo i think. The magic the gathering mana symbols and phyrexian mana symbols can also be used for inspiration, and they are well known images in the magic community. We also like playful, hand drawn style icons, like http://www.iconfinder.com/icondetails/70736/128/_icon?r=1 and http://findicons.com/icon/421818/box?id=435462 , so that might be an an option as well. I have not filled in anything for colors, the only thing to keep in mind is that our current website's dominating color is blue (http://deckbox.org), so it should go well with that. I attached a screenshot of an in-development version of our homepage (with a placeholder for logo), to have an idea of the main place we'd like to fit it :).
