Atheneia
Atheneia is a web app that allows people to map arguments. Arguments consist of individual ideas, which are positioned in logical relations to one another.
Atheneia takes individual points of data (ideas) and relates them in large systems of ideas.
We would like an icon that implies a system of points related with lines. Something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:H…t_of_3.svg. But it should appear to flow from left to right whereas this appears to flow from bottom to top. However, the lines that relate the points should not have arrow heads.
In the Atheneia system, a user can either believe an idea or not believe an idea. This could be reflected in the logo with points that are either colored or gray. But this may make it too complex. To make it clean and simple is the priority.
It would be nice to have two intertwining layers of points, that connect in some spots.
I like style of the cover art for this book: http://www.amazon.com/Philosophy-Mi…524511/ref. It's clean, simple, and exhibits a symmetrical branching structure, which is along the lines of what I want to see here.
As for the word Atheneia itself, it should look formal and serious, but modern. The icon can be positioned to the left of the logo or atop it. The logo can be all caps or just first letter cap. If you do all caps and logo atop, you might do something with the first and last letters being A.
