ROSES IN CONCRETE
HELP US & BE A HERO!! Our mission is to educate kindergarten through 12th grade students in the most low-income and under-resourced urban neighborhoods while simultaneously making their communities healthier and more sustainable.
The image that best captures our mission is of a single rose breaking through concrete. While the attached jpeg shows a rose breaking through a barrier, it's much too delicate. We're looking for a logo that communicates strength, determination, struggle, hope, achievement and beauty. The logo should stand on its own and represent our message without text or explanation. It should represent us when prominently displayed on t-shirts, caps, stationery, website, and PR materials. It can be in color or in black/white. We're open to all inspired concepts!
Our goal is to create K-12 schools as community hubs in the most under-resourced neighborhoods, and surround them with the services needed to make their community healthy and sustainable. By providing easy access to health-care, child-care, job training, adult schools, nutritious food and affordable housing to students and their families, we are introducing "love back to the 'hood" so young people can feel good about staying in their communities and begin stabilizing and revitalizing them. Instead of cultivating one rose that grows in concrete, we can break up the concrete so that an entire rose garden can blossom in the most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. The first school in Oakland, California will be a model for building similar sustainable projects in urban centers in the U.S. and around the world.
We need a logo which captures our mission, helps to open wallets and encourages engagement. Currently, our website is aimed at people who want to learn about this program so they can envision ways to help: donors, foundations, school administrators, City officials and other strategic partners.
Thanks so much for your help in making a better world possible!
(See girleffect.org for an example of something we like b/c it so clearly captures their mission.)
