Travel & Hotel
My business, Let's Explore Colorado is a service that takes people on various adventures and outdoor activity-oriented road trips throughout the state of Colorado. The primary demographic is people in their 20s and 30s with some additional targeting directed toward people in their 40s (with more disposable income who want access to more "glamping"-styled activities). Thus far, the composition/make-up of people who attend our "free" or no-cost events is 60%-women and 40%-men. My ideal customer is one who fancies themselves as a pioneer, adventurer or seeker of new experiences; someone who wants to live a more authentic and fulfilled life. In order to make a bigger push in the direction of hosting more "paid" and unique events, I need my communications and interactions with people to be bolstered by a strong brand identity and presence which embodies some simple ideas: (1) having fulfilling life-experiences, (2) going on adventures, and (3) being part of a tribe/community. The development of a unique logo which drives and reinforces this brand identity above is what I'm after. If you need me to expand more in this specific area, please do not hesitate to reach out.
GENERAL THOUGHTS - I would like to steer you ever so slightly away from anything cliché. I see *so many* local small business and other regional logos with some variation of mountains and sunshine or derivations of the Colorado state flag with the obligatory Colorado "C" that they all blend together and visually NONE of them really stands out. I am not against a logo with mountains but overall these design elements don't stand out in my mind (my interest and preference is very low for these). I want to be in a space (with respect to "look and feel" logo design elements) that few or none others are in. For this reason, I am ok with leaning in the direction of accepting a slightly more abstract design. I would even be willing to trade a few more days of brainstorming time on your end in exchange for something that isn't a final product composed of copy-paste/boilerplate elements. ----- COLOR SCHEME - My preference would be to keep the color scheme simple and limited to 2-3 total colors or less. The logo will be used on both web and print mediums. Overall, I am looking for a color scheme that is "female-friendly" but not to the extent of turning off men (e.g., no pink-oriented logos). ----- LOGO STYLE - Because the name of my organization is fairly lengthy ("Let's Explore Colorado"), I've always thought that it may not be practical to include it in the actual logo without it becoming a distraction from the other logo elements. Also, the initials "L", "E", and "C" together do not spell out anything cute or clever so I was not initially inclined to request those in the logo either. I am however very much open-minded to incorporating/integrating the initials or the full-length name, "Let's Explore Colorado" into the graphic design if you have some strong and creative ideas about how to pull this off. ----- FONT STYLE – If you do decide to include typographic elements in the design, I am fairly partial to thicker/bold fonts as well as those with slight-to-full rounded corners. Good examples would be: Fredoka One, AR Rounded MT Bold, or Signika. I am not against a more organic look as in the case of hand-drawn fonts but think that to achieve my overall goals of a logo with a strong and distinctive presence that we should stay away from outright cursive/scripting fonts. ----- I don't have a website for the paid side of the hosting, guide, and travel services I provide. Most of the business has come in through word-of-mouth referrals. I use the Meetup platform for the free side of the hosting of activities and events.
