We are the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District (MWRD). Our industry-leading organization cleans wastewater and returns clean water to the environment. We serve a large metropolitan area in the western United States where water is scarce. We are environmentalists and pride ourselves on our long-standing, positive safety record and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) compliance.
The new "Dental Amalgam Control Program" logo you are designing is a subset of the MWRD organization. The "S.M.A.R.T." and "Ideas@Work" logos attached to this brief are other internal-use only logos we have used in the past or are currently using.
NEW ADDITION TO THIS BRIEF (08/29/18 23:14 MST): we are interested in seeing the light blue/dark blue "yin-yang" portion of the MWRD logo used within the new "Dental Amalgam Control Program" logo HOWEVER we realize that this element may make the "Dental Amalgam Control Program" logo look too busy therefore the yin-yang element is NOT a necessary requirement for the winning logo. In other words, if you have a creative way of using it, then please share it, if not, then don't worry about it!
NEW ADDITION TO THIS BRIEF (08/31/18 10:00 MST): Please do not make the words "Dental Amalgam" larger than "Control Program" as it places too much emphasis on the former.
IMPORTANT: The new "Dental Amalgam Control Program" logo must convey a connection between dentistry, amalgam, and clean water.
The "Dental Amalgam Control Program" targets dentists and dental staff in our large metropolitan service area. The program will encourage the dentist to follow EPA rules surrounding the proper disposal of amalgam (the silver fillings in teeth) thereby keeping environmentally-harmful mercury out of our waterways. It is required by law for dental offices to follow these EPA rules.
The "Dental Amalgam Control Program" is MWRD's way to make the EPA rules easy to understand and follow. We will be creating easy-to-comprehend infographics and brochures that will use the winning logo from this contest.
The dentists we are targeting are mostly upper-income men in the 30-60 age group and their office staff is mostly middle-income women in their 20-50 age group.
The new "Dental Amalgam Control Program" logo must:
1) use a sans-serif font;
2) use blues and greens – blacks/greys will be considered (the MWRD logo blue is PMS 286 and the green is PMS 354);
3) fill as much space as possible within a round/square space, like the "S.M.A.R.T.", "Ideas@Work", and "Dental Amalgam Program" logos attached to this brief – please note: the new logo does not need to be inside an actual circle or square (see the "S.M.A.R.T." logo as an example);
4) be easy to understand at a glance that the program involves DENTISTRY, AMALGAM (tooth fillings), and CLEAN WATER.
The fourth logo attached to this brief is San Jose's "Dental Amalgam Program" logo. We like how it fits neatly within a circle/square space and clearly represents dentistry, amalgam (the filling in the tooth), and it's connection to clean water.
