-FONT: glass has a very chemistry/ science/ technical side to it... its not all artsy. I like the balance of this to be in the font. I'm looking for a clear, possibly edgy or different, but not funky font.
-COLORS: Please note that I will be using this logo on T-shirts, my building, business cards, brochures, pamphlets etc. I'm looking for 2/3 colors because each color adds a substantial cost over several prints, so please keep this in mind while designing.
-FEELING: If you came in here the furnace is at 2300 degrees F and people go through a process of being afraid to this feeling of wow! I did it! In the logo, I want that process to be felt, that ole! moment or the energy of the process etc... Please put yourself in the studio through the photos provided... this logo should feel/ resemble the experience in some way
-Dallas Glass Art (DGA) will be turning into a non profit 501(c)3 based on its focus to share, educate, and involve the community.
-Key words are: passion, inspiration, creativity
I'm looking for an image based logo which can incorporate the letters DGA or the words Dallas Glass Art. I am not looking for just the letters DGA written out in a cool/ interesting format. I would like the image to stand alone and represent the studio, the creation, the fun and the experience. The logo needs to emit energy, motion, light, feeling... its about creativity! --- I hope this helps!
"Working with glass and light is my my joy and my passion is to share this gift of creation with others." -Carlyn Ray
This logo is very important to me as I believe this studio to be a life changing place for women and children, at-risk kids, people looking for a spark to fire new passions, and an environment to bring people present into this beautiful world and open up their awareness to a material that is all around us.
I am starting this, but this studio is a team and a community. I have trained with the best including Dale Chihuly in Seattle, WA for a few years as well as the Corning Museum of Glass also for a few years. I have traveled and trained around the world and bringing what I have learned into this studio.
My own work:
Carlyn Ray Designs http://www.carlynraydesigns.com/
I aim to share this studio and process to the community and with a new website coming which will have a resource center available to those around the world.
I hope to act as a role model for young girls and kids. I saw glass at age 8 and fell in awe of the material, I still wake up excited and am passionate bout each new design and creation. I encourage others to follow their dream and pursue happiness.
I would love to collaborate with you on this project and I appreciate your time!

For images: here is a video of the beginning of a piece (not me)... but to save time, just look at the end, (when the bubble emerges) I think this is a great resource for inspiration for the logo... this starter bubble. See how we always have to rotate the pipe to keep the molten glass from dripping off... think about that please in the logo as well.

Inspiration For Brainstorming
Shapes: The glory hole is the bright hole we heat the glass in... It has fire that whirls around and is the shape usually seen around glass blowing and 'hot shops' (glass studios).
Spiritual: Glass is a very spiritual material. It is made from sand, from earth/ dust. It is the only material we can really shape with our breath. It is made with all the elements, air, fire, water, earth... we color it with different metals: gold, silver, iron.
Glass (along with water/ ice & plastic) is one of the few materials which can hold Light. With this Light, through the colors, and carrying the joy of making it, Glass emits Energy.
Inviting people into the creative aspect of making glass enters them into a world of fire and Light, fear and achievement, team work and self awareness, and the fulfillment of making something beautiful.
This logo and design I hope will capture this energy. In a world where people are becoming disconnected and 'bowling alone', glass and the process of creation brings them into the visceral act of being present, aware, and in the Light.
Thank you and I look forward to working with you on this creation.
Below are some pictures to give you an idea of the process, classes, shapes, colors, light, intensity, & joy that goes on here... also a sketch up of the building which was created by d3on who made my personal logo to give you an idea of the building that will incorporate both the CRD logo and the DGA logo on its face/ side.
Dallas Glass Art is in the Dallas Design District.
The building site is located in the heart of Dallas with a distinct view of downtown and right next to the landmark of Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge which is a new image for Dallas.
