Reading Keyboard Music
We sell a piano lessons course (on DVD and online) that uses a unique piano learning method that makes it much easier to learn to read piano music.
We would like to update our logo. The current logo was created about six years ago and lacks the life and creativity the owner and method embody.
You can see our current site and branding here (but keep in mind that having this logo created is the first step in updating our branding):

NOTES ABOUT UPLOADED IMAGES
I have uploaded images of our current logo; our current DVD course packaging (which we also plan to update as soon as current stock runs out); some stock art that SORT OF fits what we're looking for; and some ideas another designer put together for us that we like, but still don't convey the movement, energy and fun we are hoping for.
COMPLETE DESIGN BRIEF
This is a lot of info, but it should give you a great idea of what we're about and what we're looking for...
HISTORY
This piano learning method is time-tested and has been around for 80 years, with thousands of students. C.W. Reid created the method 80 years ago and Merrilee Webb, professor of music and current owner of the method, purchased it in 2005.
DESCRIPTION
This method is one of the fastest ways to not just learn to play piano, but to sight-read piano music. It does so by helping the student to see the black and white patterns on the piano keyboard and relate them to the black and white spaces on the music staff. This method makes learning to read much faster than memorizing letter names and "middle-c".
MERRILEE
Merrilee is a remarkable person, full of passion and life. She has been a positive influence in the lives of thousands of students. She is one of the most optimistic, happy people I know. She has a way of inspiring you to do and become more than what you ever thought you could do. She is also very funny and uses humor a lot in her classrooms and teaching.
Merrilee has spent her career teaching music (choral, theory and piano) at High Schools and Universities. She is a professor of music and loved her time teaching in Hawaii -- she always greets you with "Aloha."
PURPOSE
Merrilee's vision is to teach the world to play piano.
BENEFITS
There are a lot of people looking to learn piano in ways different than the traditional going to a piano teacher's home in your neighborhood. People are looking for a way to learn from the comfort of their own home, within their time frame. This method helps them do that.
It's also extremely affordable compared to traditional piano lessons, but costs more than some competing online piano courses. The course costs around $150 one-time...and then the whole family can use it to take lessons.
And people tend to learn faster. They also actually learn how to sight-read...becoming piano literate. This is our primary message: that this method will teach you to read piano music quickly and have fun doing it!
MESSAGE
The messages we wish to convey with the logo are:
*It's fun.
*It's simple.
*You can do it!
*It's exciting
*It's hopeful and optimistic.
Furthermore: we would like it to convey movement; we would like it to be colorful; we want it to look happy; but we don't want it to look childish (the age range of the students are literally from 4 years old to 80+); so it needs to look professional at the same time so people take it seriously; it can't look gimmicky (it's the real deal).
Even more: we would like it to be timeless as well -- honoring its 80 year heritage (but not old-fashioned) but also being relevant and current.
FINALLY
We are really focusing in on the learning to read music aspect of the method, so we would like the logo to have some element of piano music (e.g. Treble Clef, the staff, music notes, etc.)
It would be great if the viewer could immediately identify from the logo that this is a course that teaches you to play piano by learning to read piano music (e.g. as opposed to learning to play piano by ear.)
That's not too much to ask, right? ;)
Thank you for your help!
