Restaurant on the North Shore of Maui in Hawaii
Our restaurant is 16 months old and we are planning a major rebrand. We have been operating as Moana Bakery and Café and as we grow we are splitting the business into two separate entities. The Bakery is going to remain as Moana Bakery and Cafe and move into an adjacent building. We will continue to create fresh pastries and artisanal breads and rolls for our customers.
We are rebranding the restaurant this fall as “dazoo”.
“dazoo” can be written any way; dazoo, DaZoo, Dazoo, DAZOO, daZoo. How you want to write it and incorporate with the brand is open.
This design project is to capture the essence of dazoo in a new logo. We create great, fresh, locally sourced food with a pacific flair, served with warmth and professionalism and with the remodel we are create a remarkable dining experience, to rival any restaurant in the world.
Our goal is to make people think about food. Not just “Hmm this is nice”; we want to make our customers stop and really think about what they are eating in a wonderful and positive way. How do they make mushrooms taste so good? Where does this vegetable come from? I have never tasted a drink so fresh?
Dazoo is very collaborative and authentic; we strive for success and know that it takes all of us working together to create something remarkable. Dazoo is willing to make mistakes and explore new taste territories. Our menu changes quarterly and we have specials on a daily and weekly basis. This last January we celebrated Burns Night in Hawaii, just because it seemed like fun. Our vegetarian haggis was a huge success. Our service and offerings will continue to evolve as we try new things and see what is interesting and tasty and maybe slightly off the beaten path.
Located in Paia which is a mixing pot of all types of people and cuisines, including; hippies, euro types, asians, vegans, tourists, locals, windsurfers, surfers, yogi’s and many others. The name dazoo is in part our homage to Hawaii. “Da” in Hawaiin is how the locals will say ‘the’. I.e. “Are you going to the bank?” becomes “Are you going to da bank?” So dazoo is our tongue in cheek reference to the mishmash of cultures that is Paia and also reflects our passion for food and what goes into a great meal. Throughout the remodeled dining room we will have cardboard animals, fish, fruit and vegetables hanging from the ceiling and walls.
Our chefs have worked on the West Coast of the US for some great restaurants including, the Ritz in SF, Pairs in Seattle etc. Our executive chef, Helen Hong has created a menu of modern Hawaiian dishes applying the sensibilities of high end West Coast cuisine to Maui's local bounty to produce fresh, tasty and unpretentious food.
Our food in our customer words
“A Gem in Paia.” “The presentation was amazing.” “The soups were to die for.” “I took small bites that actually melted in my mouth.” “It was the nicest dinner we have had in some time, not just in Hawaii, but anywhere.”
The food that we are creating is exciting and we will be exploring lots of different cultures and tastes as we evolve and explore.
