How St. Joseph started their logo design journey
Who are you known as?
St. Andrew Catholic Church
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Catholic Church located in Roanoke, VA. Church is a National and State Historical landmark.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?

They want their logo to communicate the parish’s commitment to Catholic tradition (rooted in history), but still want to communicate a “contemporary relevance.”
They feel that a logo like that of St. Patrick’s Cathedral (attached) is “heading in the right direction”
Their church “contrasts and complements” its surroundings: It is literally a “beacon” within the community, and “sticks out” somewhat compared to the buildings around which it is placed. However, it is beautifully situated within the community within the valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, so perhaps the logo indicates the church’s situation among the mountains as well.
Want to communicate the scene of the church in a simple manner
He referred to the church as “the greatest piece of art in Roanoke”
Logo shouldn’t be too cold and rigid, want it to also communicate warmth/inviting
Has a personal preference for logos with a bit of roundedness to them. Specifically, he really liked the simplicity and sense of roundedness in the St. Joseph Libertyville logo (https://stjoseph-libertyville.org/).
Given that their icon/mark should communicate tradition, they are willing to “lean contemporary” with the font choice(s)
They simply want it to be “easy on the eyes”
Color: The bricks of their church building are a unique gold -- try to use a gold color similar to that of the bricks.
They also like blue (as in how the gold of the church’s bricks plays with the blue color of the sky)
Don’t strongly dislike any colors in particular
