Game Factions / Card Texture Variations
The Oblivion is a faction from beneath reality, called The Void. Texturing style should be somewhat purplish with decorations like purple orbs, runes or something. This is where your creativity comes into play!
The Mighty Drakkorith, humanoid dragons. They are presented in yellow/red/brown colors and have nice texturing details. Decoration and embellishments are your choice.
Neutral cards represent a large variety of other factions. The dominant color should be gray as it is the most neutral color out there.
Elements reference sketch and description (in the attachment)
NOTE: This design is made only to explain the layout of the card elements. You don’t have to follow the design since there is no design to be followed. This picture exists only to show you the placement of the card's elements.
COST ICON – ESSENCE COST
We think it should be displayed as an enchanted orb, although you are free to present your creative ideas.
CREATURE PORTRAIT FRAME – 3D FEELING
This is the most important design feature.
The background of the character will be placed inside the frame but at some parts the body of the character should “peek” outside the frame, overlapping it at a certain point, providing a 3D feeling.
The idea was to make the design of the card look like a portal that has summoned a character. The portal has wide edges, to emphasize the 3D feeling when the character overlaps it.
If you think you have an idea to make it look better while ensuring the 3D feeling and allowing the art to be nicely displayed, you are welcome to present us that idea.
ATTACK ICON, HEALTH ICON & NAMEPLATE
Most card games have an attack and health attributes at the bottom of the card, so for the sake of visibility and originality we chose to place the main attributes in the middle of the card, above the nameplate.
We are still struggling on how to organize the three of them in a way that will look good, and to allow the name plate to have space for some longer card names. We need your help regarding this issue :)
Attack icon should represent the creature’s attack attribute value, it should communicate with the player instantly, same as the health icon. The design choice is completely up to you, but keep in mind to match the design with the rest of the card.
The color and texture of the text should be somewhat neutral, compatible with all the faction textures, pleasant to the eye and a viable canvas for dark-colored text. In the text box, all the card effects are displayed and it is mandatory that it be easily readable on screen.
Placed at the bottom of the card. Explains the type of card; creature, spell or other.
Example: Goblin Warrior, Spell — Fire, etc. Feel free to be creative about this one :)
The game will be playable on different resolutions, HD (1920x1080) and above, so be prepared to make the final design in high-resolution, preferably 4K or above.
Note that when the card will be displayed inside the game, it will be scaled to various sizes depending on where it is shown and what the screen resolution is. For example, when the player has the cards in his “hand” the size will be the smallest, he must be able to see the Card’s name and the cost, but in order to read the entire card text the player will be able to zoom in and enlarge the card to its full size.
The reference card’s dimension ratio is roughly 1 : 1.4 (width:height). Try to keep your design somewhere close to that, it doesn’t have to be exactly the same.
The card’s size will always be related to the screen resolution. The width will roughly be 0.225×W and the height will be 0.55×H, where W is the screen width, and H is the screen height.
Example: If the screen resolution is set to 1920×1080 px, the card will be displayed at 430×600 px in its largest form, and at 215×300px in its smallest form.
Keep all of this in mind when designing your card. It must look good in many different sizes.
The text in the nameplate and on the cost icons must be clearly readable at all possible size ranges (largest or smallest card form). All other text must be readable at the largest size only.
