Justin Krause got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
New calendar app needs a sexy icon
Check out Justin Krause's Icon or button contest…
Pod is a "connected" calendar app - more powerful than any other calendar. It shows upcoming events and reminders, and it shows your full history with any contact. It's a calendar that is about "people" - not just about scheduling. It allows you to add contacts to "Lists" so you can see who you need to follow up with. It works for both you and your team. If your team uses it, you can have conversations about events, right in Pod. Pod is for anyone who has a busy life, but especially for smart professionals who need to keep track of all their events and people. Pod's brand is very clean and modern. We love simplicity and clarity!
What's your vision?
We need an iOS App Icon that screams "calendar" - but also evokes the fact that Pod is a very special calendar. We have looked at almost all of the calendar icons in the app store, and we feel many of them are noisy. Right now, our icon is purely-brand. We want our new icon to make it clear that this is the *calendar* on a user's home screen - the best calendar, and the only calendar they need. Word of caution - we've had mixed success with rounded-rectangles within app icons. We are very interested in having some sort of calendar iconography "claim" this as the calendar on a user's screen, but we've struggled with how this looks within the rounded canvas. We'd love to see examples of how the icon looks with rounded corners so we have a sense for how it would look on an iPhone screen.
