uberamit got their new button or icon by running a design contest:
Wildly popular SwingReader Golf iOS app needs new icon!
Check out uberamit's Button or icon contest…
SwingReader Golf is an iPhone and iPad solution that helps athletes and coaches video-analyze their technique, and share and discuss their videos to improve and win at their sport.
What's your vision?
We would like to get our app icon for the Apple AppStore redesigned. The app is called SwingReader Golf, and is currently used by hundreds of thousands of users all around the world. We currently have one icon with three variations - one for our free iPhone app, one for our paid iPhone app, and the third for the iPad app. The icon should immediately tell the user that the app allows golfers video record their swing, and analyze the video to improve. The app is used by golf coaches and avid amateurs for several hours while at the driving range or on the course, and so the icon needs to be catchy enough to be quickly found. In the current version of the app, we use a specific green background and we would like to maintain that green color in the new icon as well; however, we are open to suggestions on how 'video analysis' and 'golf' is represented in the icon. The new icon may or may not contain a silhouette of a golfer. If you choose to include a silhouette, please do make sure the golfer does not resemble any popular golfer - especially not Tiger Woods. I am attaching three images. First is the current logo sample. The second is the SwingReader logo from the swingreader.com website. The third is the splash screen that appears for a fraction of a second when the app opens - but the artwork on the flash screen may be used for ideas.
The target audience for our apps are golf instructors and avid amateurs from around the world, with the largest user base in the US, UK, Australia, Japan, and South Korea. Given that the app is used by golfers speaking different languages and from different cultures, the design should appeal to all. The app is used by people who are committed to improve and excel at their game and so it should exude excellence, and be so beautiful that people want to use the app even more than they currently do!!
