Logo needs to look good on a bottle and a box. Interested in a modern brand https://www.bruichladdich.com/ is a decent exemplar. It's a modern whisky, made in a non-traditional location (New Zealand) so may as well roll with modern. Blacks and blues tend to communicate quality, so thinking that the label would be predominantly black or blue with the (bold?) text on this (not 100% wedded to this, if think that a colourful background will work better such as that that bruichladdich use? you will win me over if it still communicates quality). Some subtle detailing / patterns on the dark background might look good. Would still like to incorporate colour (colourful Indian artwork / image behind the text?) if possible. Needs shelf appeal, cant just be black and white. Logo unlikely to be competing with much else on the bottle / box and other than regulatory labeling, and a "MADE IN NEW ZEALAND" on the label somewhere, it will have the box / bottle all to itself.
Kawau is a Maori word, and means sea bird / cormorant. Distillery is located in Snell's beach (Kawau Bay) with a view near enough to this: https://goo.gl/images/aGDF97 of Kawau island.
